Black Knot

Posted on Friday March 26, 2021 at 10:29AM

Black Knot is a common disease on plum and cherry trees and it is important to remove it if you see it on your trees so that it does not continue to spread. The best time to remove it is in the spring dormant season before April 1st.

Methods to deal with Black Knot:
-Remove all knots and swellings by pruning 3-6 inches below the knot.
-Severely infected trees should be removed entirely.
- Sterilize cutting shears after use to limit the spread.
- Bag pruning's separately from other items to limit the spread.

Disposal information is set out in the attachment.
